It is used as a dry fire extinguisher. It is a well known nonlinear optical material for various optoelectronic applications. It is also used in an emerald green, amethyst and aquamarine crystal growing box kit for children.

Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids and sodium hypochlorite.
