Bis(benzonitrile)dichloroplatinum(II) is used as a catalyst for asymmetric hydroformylation reactions, allylation reactions, cyclopropanation reactions, hydrosilylation reactions and carbene insertion into O-H bonds of alcohols.

It is moisture sensitive. It should be stored in a sealed, dry, well-ventilated, lightproof place.
