Holmium(III) fluoride is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of glass, metal halide lamp and dopant to garnet laser. It is employed in metallurgy, chemical and physical vapor deposition and in some optical coatings.

Hygroscopic.Store in a cool, dry conditions in a well sealed container. Do not store near acids. Incompatible with strong reducing agents.
