It is also implicated in regulation of migration and neuronal plasticity. Cdk5, expressed in neurons, modulates cytoskeletal elements, axonal guidance, membrane transport, synaptogenesis and cell survival during both normal and pathological conditions. Downregulated expression of the gene is associated with various types of disease such as Alzheimer′s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson′s disease, Huntington′s disease and acute neuronal injury. |
