Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases having diverse physiological functions. Growing evidence suggests that many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and some have potential as novel cancer and other disease biomarkers. This gene is one of the fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located in a cluster on chromosome 19. In some tissues its expression is hormonally regulated. The expression pattern of a similar mouse protein in murine developing teeth supports a role for the protein in the degradation of enamel proteins. Alternate splice variants for this gene have been described, but their biological validity has not been determined. (provided by RefSeq) Kallikrein related peptidase 4 (KLK4) is a hormone-regulated peptide expressed in prostate, testis, epidermis and other tissues. The gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 19q13.4.

KLK4 (NP_004908.2, 159 a.a. ~ 254 a.a) partial recombinant protein with GST tag. MW of the GST tag alone is 26 KDa.

Kallikrein related peptidase 4 (KLK4) has a role in male reproduction and tooth enamel maturation. It degrades proteins in the extracellular matrix. The protein has been linked to oral squamous cell carcinoma and prostate cancer. Inactivation of KLK4 is associated with a subtype of amelogenesis imperfecta (2A1).
