Monoclonal Anti-phospho-β-Catenin (pThr41) (mouse IgG1 isotype) is derived from the BCT-41 hybridoma produced by the fusion of mouse myeloma cells (NS1 cells) and splenocytes from BALB/c mice. β-catenin belongs to the armadillo family and comprises the N-terminal region with 12 imperfect repeats and a conserved C-terminal region. The locus 3p22.1 in the human chromosome harbors β-catenin gene.

Monoclonal Anti-phospho-β-Catenin (pThr41) reacts specifically with human β-catenin phosphorylated at Thr41 (~ 94 kDa).

β-catenin is a prime component of the wingless (Wnt) pathway and plays a key role in gene expression during development. β-Catenin activity is regulated by phosphorylation on serine/threonine residues located at the protein amino terminus.. The phosphorylation of β-catenin occurs in a protein complex that includes the APC complex (Adenomatous Polyposis Coli), together with Axin by casein kinase I (CKI) and glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK-3). The phosphorylation of the β-catenin protein targets the protein to degradation by the β-TrCP (β-transducin repeat-containing protein). Mutations in the serine and threonine residues in the amino-terminal region of the protein and in particular in the phosphorylation sites in that region, cause a reduction in the degradation of the protein and can lead to cancer.
