Retinal short chain dehydrogenase reductase isoform 1 (RDHE2) has an important function in retinoic acid biosynthesis. It oxidises retinol to retinaldehyde. RDHE2 also has a role in the activation of keratinocyte proliferation. Increased levels of the protein have been observed in psoriasis.
