Olmesartan medoxomil is converted enzymatically to the active form olmesartan. Olmesartan medoxomil is considered as an antihypertensive agent. It is an angiotensin 2 type 1 antagonist receptor. It is a prodrug which releases the parent compound olmesartan after ingestion. Olmesartan is ejected via kidney and liver. In humans, olmesartan protects renal and cardiovascular systems. This drug may be used in the treatment of hypertension. |
