Used for the differentiation of S. aueus. Vogel and Johnson enhanced the fermentation reaction by increasing the mannitol concentration to 1 % (w/v).

Suspend 61.0 g in 1 litre of distilled water and bring gently to the boil to dissolve completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121℃ for 15 minutes. Cool to 50℃ and add 20 ml of sterile 1% potassium tellurite (Cat. No. 17774). Do not heat the complete medium!
