| General description【一般描述】 | The PRKN (parkin RBR E3 ubiquitin protein ligase) gene, also referred to as PARK2, is mapped to human chromosome 6q25.2–27. It is one of the largest genes in the human genome spanning a length of 1.53Mb. The gene consists of 12 exons and encodes a protein of 465 amino acids. It is broadly expressed in several tissues, including neurons, astrocytes, lung, colon and testes. Anti-Parkin Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Parkin protein. |

| Biochem/physiol Actions【生化/生理作用】 | The PRKN (parkin RBR E3 ubiquitin protein ligase) gene encodes an E3 ubiquitin ligase that is involved in the maintenance of dopamine (DA) neuronal homeostasis. It ubiquitinates target proteins by interacting with ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes, such as UBCH7 (Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 L3) and UBCH8 (Ubiquitin/ISG15-conjugating enzyme E2 L6). Mutations in this gene have been linked to early-onset and progression of Parkinson′s Disease. Variations in this gene have also been associated with glioblastoma and other human malignancies. |
