| General description【一般描述】 | Tau (τ), also known as MAPT (microtubule associated protein tau) is encoded by the gene mapped on human chromosome 17q21.3. It is highly expressed in neurons but is most prominent in axons. |

| Biochem/physiol Actions【生化/生理作用】 | Removal of Tau (τ) results in developmental delay and learning disability. It participates in the pathology of Alzheimer′s disease (AD). Tau helps in the assembly and maintenance of microtubule structure. Measurement of phosphorylated tau (P-tau) levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) acts a potential marker for differentiation between AD and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). |
