PPM1J or PP2Cζ gene encodes a Ser/Thr phosphatase protein, mapped on to chromosome 1 at 1p13.1 and is predominantly expressed in testicular germ cells. The mouse counterpart of this gene belongs to the protein phosphatase 2C family of genes. Small ubiquitin-related modifier-1 (SUMO-1) enhances the PP2Cζ interaction with ubiquitin conjugating enzyme 9 (UBC9) and exhibits its specific role.
