General description【一般描述】 | SRγ (sex determining region γ) (SOX) are HMG box containing transcription factors that bind to the minor groove of DNA. Sox proteins family members regulate a variety of aspects of development. SRγ (sex determining region γ)-box 9 (SOX9, CMD1, CMPD1, SRA1, SRγ) is a master regulator of chondrocyte differentiation and chondrogenesis, which results in the formation of cartilage. |

It is used as a probe to determine the roles of SRγ (sex determining region γ)-box 9 in chondrocyte differentiation and cartilage formation. |
Biochem/physiol Actions【生化/生理作用】 | SOX9 recognizes the sequence CCTTGAG along with other members of the HMG-box class DNA-binding proteins. It acts during chondrocyte differentiation and, with steroidogenic factor 1, regulates transcription of the anti-Muellerian hormone (AMH) gene. Deficiencies lead to the skeletal malformation syndrome campomelic dysplasia, frequently with sex reversal.The protein encoded by this gene recognizes the sequence CCTTGAG along with other members of the HMG-box class DNA-binding proteins. It acts during chondrocyte differentiation and, with steroidogenic factor 1, regulates transcription of the anti-Muellerian hormone (AMH) gene. Deficiencies lead to the skeletal malformation syndrome campomelic dysplasia, frequently with sex reversal.
