| General description【一般描述】 | Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a pleiotropic cytokine and a potent lymphoid cell growth factor. It is produced by activated T cells and is a ligand for interleukin 4 receptor. The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 5q31.1. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. |
| Biochem/physiol Actions【生化/生理作用】 | Interleukin-4 (IL-4) stimulates the growth and survivability of certain B cells and T cells. The interleukin 4 receptor also binds to interleukin-13 (IL-13), which may contribute to many overlapping functions of this cytokine and IL-13. STAT6 (signal transducer and activator of transcription-6) has been shown to play a central role in mediating the immune regulatory signal of this cytokine. This protein exhibits anti-inflammatory responses and has a role in immune processes by protecting against intracellular pathogens. |
