| General description【一般描述】 | Glutathione S-transferase A1 in humans is encoded by the GSTA1 gene. Cytosolic and membrane-bound forms of glutathione S-transferase are encoded by two distinct supergene families. These enzymes function in the detoxification of electrophilic compounds, including carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins and products of oxidative stress, by conjugation with glutathione. The genes encoding these enzymes are known to be highly polymorphic. GSTA1 protects the cells from reactive oxygen species and is highly expressed in liver. The gene encoding GSTA1 is localized on human chromosome 6p12.2. |
| Biochem/physiol Actions【生化/生理作用】 | GSTA1 (Glutathione S-transferase α1) is associated with the biosynthesis of steroids such as testosterone and progesterone. It plays a vital role in double bond isomerase activity. GSTA1 converts δ(5)-androstene-3,17-dione to δ(4)-androstene-3,17-dione. It has a role in the metabolism of several xenobiotics. |
